Why is Teachable unique?
I love the live group coaching feature.
It’s an interactive webinar hosted three times weekly by Teachable experts to answer creators’ questions, help them learn more about the platform, and guide instructors to make the most of the platform.
I didn’t try it out because the feature is only available to paid subscribers.
Teachable pricing
Teachable has a free plan plus four paid plans.
I can only publish one course, digital product, and coaching product each with a free plan. However, it attracts only $1 plus a 10% transaction fee. The Basic plan is available at $59 monthly. But I can save 33% with the annual plan. I can publish up to five courses with this plan at a 5% transaction fee.
The other paid plans range between $159 monthly to $499.
Feature 1: User experience of course builder
I signed up in less than a minute.
Teachable took me straight to my dashboard after providing little information about myself. The company says the answers will help them build an experience to match my needs.
Teachable is big on user experience and intuitiveness.
Like in other platforms, it arranges all the platform tools neatly on the sidebar menu, which makes them readily accessible. Also, I found several helpful articles on the dashboard that can help me navigate various issues—I didn’t run into any when I tested the platform.
I tested the course builder first.
I observed that the platform has a built-in content outline generator. I provided a brief course description and the AI gave me what I wanted. The good thing is I can edit the outline if I am not satisfied.
Next, I added lessons to the curriculum to build a complete course.
I only need to drag and drop elements—text, video, image, PDF viewer, resources, audio, media embed, and quiz—to where I want. I can even add custom code while building a lesson.
From my experience, Teachble’s course builder is more advanced and robust than Udemy and Thinkific.
Feature 2: Learner engagement tools
I couldn’t find much learner engagement tools on Teachable.
Students can only take quizzes, leave comments, and download course completion certificates. I believe the platform can benefit from having more engagement tools like assignments, surveys, gamification features, student feedback, and other things that encourage active student participation in their learning process.
Feature 3: Marketing and payment features
I noticed an upsell drag-and-drop element while creating a lesson.
It means I can recommend additional courses to learners while they’re most engaged—taking lessons. And I can offer multiple upsells to a course. This feature will help me boost my students’ average order value, which means more revenue for me.
The built-in email marketing tool is another marketing feature that caught my attention.
I didn’t test it due to my free plan. However, I observed that I can send cart abandonment emails with it. I can also edit my email template and add custom codes.
Other built-in marketing features are coupons, membership, affiliates, and bundles. But they are only for paid plans, except offering bundles.
Teachable, as a fully integrated eCommerce suite, has a built-in payment system like Thinkific. So, getting paid wasn’t a problem.
Feature 4: Scalability
Teachable is very scalable.
It currently supports over 100,000 creators. I can upgrade and downgrade my subscription as the need arises. Also, the platform integrates seamlessly with Zapier, which makes it even more extensible.
Feature 5: Affordability
Teachable is affordable when compared to its capabilities and revenue potential. And I can save up to 33% with the annual plan, which is one of the highest in the industry. Also, the platform has a free plan I can begin with immediately and scale as the business grows.
Feature 6: Unique features
Teachable lets me do a lot of things, no matter what pricing plan I choose.
I can build courses, create downloadable digital products, set up coaching services, and even bundle these products together. But the thing that impressed me the most was Teachable’s native AI capability.
Not only can it generate a complete course outline, but I can also use it to create a complete text lesson.
